Waves StudioVerse Mix Unlock is a new premium feature within Waves StudioVerse Audio Effects, allowing stem separation with per-channel effects chains.
StudioVerse is a free enhancement for Waves users that gives you access to the vast Waves Community online library of presets for StudioVerse Audio Effects or StudioVerse Instruments. Although it requires a separate license, Mix Unlock runs within StudioVerse, offering Stem Separation capabilities for producers and remixers.
Waves StudioVerse Mix Unlock
One of the most interesting things about Mix Unlock is that it allows you to use your own 3rd-party plugins to create processing chains for each of the four stem separation channels. This allows you to create mashups and remixes on the fly using an instance of StudioVerse for each “source material” track. This is particularly quick and easy when you’ve pre-selected songs with the same tempo and key.
Naturally, to get the full benefit of the Waves Community preset library stem processing presets, you would need to have all licenses for the respective plugins being used. However, this feature is only going to appeal to a certain group of stem separation users, as most producers are more likely to prefer building custom chains with their own selection of plugins.
Popular brands such as FabFilter, Soundtoys, and Valhalla DSP are supported, which gives you a wide scope of options to choose from. Mix Unlock can separate tracks into two stems (vocals and instrumental) or four (vocals, drums, bass, and instruments), and each channel has a set of basic mixer controls, including input gain, fader, pan, mute, and solo.

In addition, there is a sensitivity knob for adjusting the algorithm to achieve the cleanest possible separation. Overall, this is an exciting feature for sample-based music producers, as it has the workflow to extract parts from any song and then transform them into something unique for use in your own music (provided you have permission).
