The new UDO Audio DMNO ON is the desktop version of the magnificent DMNO hybrid synth. And you get to decide how many knobs you need!
UDO Audio DMNO ON
About a year ago, UDO Audio launched DMNO: a wonderfully unconventional hybrid synth with an unusual architecture and a cinematic sound that blew me away at first listen. The new DMNO ON brings the same unique synth architecture to your desktop in a more compact format with two optional expansion modules. This way, you can decide: would you like a compact desktop synth with a limited set of controls, or do you prefer the full set of knobs?
Like the keyboard version, the DMNO ON is an eight-voice polyphonic, two-part multitimbral hybrid synth with two independent synth engines. The desktop version offers the same unique architecture with eight play modes visualized by domino pieces, which create unique interactions between the two parts. Per voice, the synth offers two digital FPGA oscillators and an analog dynamic multi-core stereo filter.
How do you fit this much synthesis into a small desktop enclosure? UDO Audio has come up with a simple and effective solution. While the keyboard version offers two identical control panels for the two parts (in true Oberheim Two Voice style), the DMNO ON offers only one synthesis panel in its base configuration. Under the hood, however, you still have access to the full synthesis engine with eight voices and two parts.
If you’d like to control both parts simultaneously (and who doesn’t want that?), you can expand the synth with the optional ONM-1 Synth Control module to add a dedicated set of controls for the second part. UDO Audio also plans to release a second expansion module (ONM-2 Effects Control) for hands-on control of the synth’s built-in effects. Depending on the controls you need, you can add either one or both of these modules.
