The Triton Audio Tilt EQ expands the popular range of compact in-line preamps with an ideal solution for home studios, live sound, or location sound rigs.
Triton Audio’s in-line preamplifier range features the legendary cylindrical FetHead series for mics, as well as the BigAmp series for instruments. Using low-noise Class-A FET circuitry and running on phantom power, these little XLR in-line pres ensure your signal is optimized for capture or use on stage.
Triton Audio Tilt EQ
The Tilt EQ works in exactly the same fashion as the rest of the preamps in this range, connecting directly to the mic’s XLR port. When you activate the phantom power from your mixer or audio interface, it instantly adds +22 dB of discrete gain, which is perfect when you aren’t getting enough signal from your Royer R-121 ribbon or the Shure SM7B dynamic mic into your audio interface.
The primary feature is, of course, the built-in one-knob EQ that lets you simultaneously trim lows while boosting highs, or vice versa. From its default 12 o’clock position, the signal is left untouched. However, turning the knob clockwise will boost highs above 700 Hz while cutting lows below this pivot point in the frequency range.
Naturally, a counter-clockwise turn of the knob will do the opposite, in the same smooth and musical way. The reason that the Tilt EQ works so well is that the 700 Hz pivot sits in the critical midrange area, so you can tonally rebalance vocals or instruments while maintaining the natural character of the sound.
This is particularly useful for minimalistic home or live recording setups where you may be limited to capturing a performance with only one or two microphones. With a couple of Tilt EQs, you can quickly adjust the sound to compensate for the room, giving you a more mix-ready sound that needs less processing in post.
