PPG 1002

[UPDATE: 30th April, 2026] It’s been a year since this beautiful, boutique recreation of the PPG 1002 was announced and debuted at Superbooth ’25, and now you are able to pre-order one of the 102 units at our affiliate partner! The price is the same, a cool €9,999, but then this is an utterly unique, hand-built recreation where no expense has been spared in bringing it back to life.

I was able to get hands on with it last year, and it oozed quality, both in terms of sound and craftsmanship, and even though the price is far too rich for me, there will be more than enough people for whom the lure of owning one of Wolfgang Palm’s most loved instruments will surpass the financial obstacle.

[May 6th, 2025] Wolfgang Palm and Cornel Hecht have joined forces to resurrect the last fully analogue PPG synth, the classic PPG 1002 and it looks and sounds incredible!

Hot on the heels of the PPG W2.2×4 Eurorack module that gave us classic PPG wavetable synthesis in modular form, Cornel Hecht has once again joined forces with the founder of PPG, the legendary Wolfgang Palm to bring back one of the last fully analogue PPG synths, the 1002.

The PPG 1002 Synthesizer

This new recreation appears to replicate the original fully, but with the addition of MIDI and velocity response and the omission of a keyboard. The original sported two oscillators and a 24db/Oct 4-pole filter. The second oscillator also doubled up as a subaudio oscillator. The new PPG 1002 adds an extra square waveform on this, along with oscillator sync.

There’s a noise generator that can be used for audio and modulation, which can also be swapped out for a ring modulator. The LFO is routable with two different waveforms and switchable modulators for each module, which allows for modular-esque routing. All of this is powered by a precision, low-noise power supply.

CV/Gate connectivity is retained, as is the beautifully simple design of the front panel. If the teaser video is anything to go by, it also sounds as desirable as the original. Estimates suggest that no more than 100 of the originals were produced, possibly less, so to have a modern recreation by the original designer is something very special indeed.

If you want to check out the PPG 1002 for yourself, you can find it at Superbooth 25 between the 8th and 10th of May at booth H130. Get there early as I imagine there will be quite a crowd!

Price and Availability

As you might imagine, a synth like this isn’t going to be cheap, or made in large numbers. In fact, PPG Synths will only make this to order. They will require a deposit of €4,999 up front. This confirms your order and is non-refundable. The final €5,000 will be due prior to delivery.

Yup, that’s right. This synth will cost you a cool €9,999. Pre-ordered units will begin shipping around September of 2025.

More details can be found, and orders placed, at the PPG Synths website.
