TetraOP, Delta6, CURVA: Free Plugins of the Week

This week’s roundup of freebies brings you two excellent synths and a very unique modulation plugin. Check out TetraOP, Delta6, and CURVA!

TetraOP: 4-Oscillator Wavetable Synth with Extensive Modulation

Developer TiagoLr, known for fantastic free plugins such as RipplerX, FILT-R, REEV-R, and QDelay, released TetraOP as his entry for this year’s KVR Developer Challenge. And with a track record like that, his entry sure doesn’t disappoint. TetraOP is a powerful 4-oscillator wavetable synth with extensive sound design and modulation possibilities.

Each of the four oscillators offers a selection of basic waves and wavetables. The oscillators can also interact with each other through FM and ring modulation, for which there are ten predefined FM layouts, as well as an extensive routing matrix. For sound shaping, TetraOP features two independent multi-mode filters, which can be assigned to any combination of the oscillators. Unison is also a big topic, with each oscillator offering 16 unison voices and five unison modes. This means that TetraOP is capable of some seriously big sounds.

What’s more, the synth also offers an extensive modulation engine with four freely assignable envelopes and LFOs each. Other available modulators include velocity, keytracking, aftertouch, random, and the mod wheel. Four programmable macros allow for controlling several parameters at once. Everything can be assigned on the fly using a drag-and-drop system. All in all, a very capable free software synth with a couple of features usually only found in paid plugins.

TetraOP is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST3, AU, and LV2 formats.

Hivetune Delta6: 6-Operator FM Synth with Flexible Routing

Delta6 by Hivetune is a six-operator FM synthesizer with a fully open modulation matrix. This means that you aren’t limited to a fixed set of algorithms. Instead, you can freely configure the interactions between the operators. The matrix also helps visualize the modulation paths, providing an instant overview of your FM patch.

In addition to the classic sine wave, the operators also offer triangle, sawtooth, and square waves, as well as noise. This opens up another layer of sound design and modulation possibilities. Each operator has its own tuning, level, and envelope controls. Moreover, Operator 6 offers a feedback control for self-modulation.

Other features include a Drift control for analog-style pitch variations, built-in reverb and chorus effects, and a Dice button for generating random presets.

Drift6 is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats. The free version is fully functional, but includes only 20 presets. The full version ($4.99) comes with over 100 presets.

Sugoi Audio CURVA: Bend it like Beckham!

CURVA
CURVA · Source: Sugoi Audio

Here’s an idea for a modulation plugin you don’t see every day! CURVA by Sugoi Audio lets you shoot your audio across the stereo field as if it were a football pitch. The dude on the left kicks the ball (your audio), with the trajectory of the ball affecting the panning, brightness, and pitch simultaneously. The attacker will kick the ball based on your choice of two modes: Move syncs the kicks to your DAW tempo, while Kick is a transient-based mode that launches the ball depending on the transients in your audio. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also draw your own flight path.

But that’s not all! Simply kicking the ball into an empty goal would be too easy, wouldn’t it? That’s why CURVA also involves a very motivated goalkeeper who will try everything to intercept the ball in its path, with five modes to choose from. This allows for a wide range of interesting echo effects, ranging from slapback echoes to a ping-pong bounce.

A very unique effect that’s a lot of fun to play around with!

CURVA is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, AAX, and standalone formats.
