More pitch adjustment ranges, reverse playback and other improvements make the new Technics SL-1210MKX the DJ turntable to get. Better make that two of them.
Technics SL-1210MKX
Are you sitting down? You’re going to want to grab a chair or stool or something because this is BIG. For the first time since 2019, Technics is debuting the proper follow-up to the SL-1210MK7, and it’s a real doozy. Ladies and gentlemen, the SL-1200MKX.

Technics SL-1210MKX: The One to Beat
The Technics SL-1200MK2 was introduced in 1979 and quickly became the deck to get. With its strong torque and direct drive system, it was perfect for DJing. If you wanted to be a DJ, you had to have a pair of 1200s in your rig. It was as simple as that.
Technics has since released a number of variants in the 1200 series. The latest is the SL-1210MKX, which keeps what everyone loves about the series intact while also making sure it has the kinds of features that modern vinyl DJs need.
Technics SL-1210MKX: New Features
Let’s look at what’s new compared to the MK7. First of all, the MKX has an increased total weight of 11.9kg. Not good if you have to carry them from gig to gig, but definitely good if you’re trying to reduce feedback. That extra weight (the MK7 tops out at 9.6kg) coupled with newly developed high-performance isolators help reduce the chance of feedback, which is definitely something you don’t want in the middle of your set.
In terms of performance features, the turntable offers not just ±8% and ±16% pitch adjustment ranges, but now also ±4% and ±50%. And, taking a page from some of the other recent Technics models, it also includes a reverse play mode.
Other innovations include a newly developed glare-free LED stylus illuminator, a push-type reset button with reduced operational noise, a better headhsell mount for a more secure fit, and a larger phono ground terminal for easy grabbing.
Technics SL-1210MKX: Other Features
Of course, it’s not all new. The MKX has what you want and expect from an SL-1200 model, including a die-cast aluminum platter, polished silver tonearm with height adjustment, rotation speeds of 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm, and an electronic brake.
For outputs, you get the standard phono RCA pair plus the ground terminal.
The new Technics SL-1210MKX comes packed with a removable dust cover and special MKX slipmat and slipsheet. It’s available in black and silver colorways. Note that a cartridge is not included.
