Scintillate, VxBx, Parrot: Free Plugins of the Week

The KVR Developer Challenge 2026 is over, and the results are in! The winners are Scintillate, VxBx, and Parrot: a sparkling spectral reverb, an all-in-one vocal effects suite, and a multi-mode delay with an attitude.

Sweet Audio Scintillate: Would you Like some Sparkle on Top?

Congratulations to the winner of the KVR Developer Challenge 2026! Scintillate by Sweet Audio is a unique spectral reverb plugin that lets you sprinkle some fairy dust on top of a conventional reverb. Perfect for creative sound design and all sorts of trippy effects!

The reverb section on the left lets you dial in the desired length and tone and add some shimmer for good measure. The Sparkle section is where it gets interesting. Depending on the Rate, Decay, and Density settings, Scintillate generates spectral sparkles on top of the main reverb, adding a unique, otherworldly quality to the sound and sending your tracks into the stratosphere.

Results range from subtle glitter to a full-on “fluttering wall of sound”. What’s more, Scintillate also features a very polished UI with a great visualizer. It sure isn’t easy to come up with something new and unique in the world of reverb, so I think this award is well deserved.

Scintillate is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and CLAP formats.

Maciel Audio VxBx: All-in-one Vocal Processing Suite

The second place winner came as a surprise to some users, as there were several reports of excessive CPU usage. So VxBx (Vocal Box) by Maciel Audio may not be quite ready just yet. However, the plugin did manage to win second place, and the idea is quite promising. With a bit of polishing, it may very well become a great free vocal tool in your arsenal.

VxBx combines the essential components of a vocal processing chain into a single plugin, helping your vocals cut through the mix. The plugin seems to focus on a more aggressive vocal sound for genres such as rock and metal.

The signal chain starts with a noise suppressor that helps remove unwanted noise and ambience from your recording to prepare it for further processing. The signal then runs through the Spank section, a custom blend of aggressive compression and saturation. If you dare, you can activate Aggro mode for even more bite and grit.

VxBx also includes a bunch of built-in effects, such as classic radio vocals and a unique modulation effect named Spooky. There’s also a full suite of spatial effects, including a slapback delay, two tempo-synced delays, and two reverbs.

VxBx is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.

Darkpalace Studio Parrot: Delay with an Attitude

In third place is Parrot by Darkpalace Studio. At its core, this is a highly unique multi-band delay effect. However, calling it a delay doesn’t do it justice! Rather, Parrot is a powerful creative sound design tool that lets you do things no other delay can do.

Parrot lets you apply independent delays to three separate frequency bands in parallel, allowing for some pretty wacky effects. You can adjust the bands by dragging the curve with your mouse, and select the desired filter slope. Each band also lets you select the type of delay you want by choosing the desired note value and feedback. Thanks to independent pan controls for each band, Parrot can also create unique stereo effects.

In addition to the delay, each band has an effect slot with a wide selection of effects, ranging from saturation and bit crushing to pitch and frequency shifting to flanger, chorus, and more. This is where you can get really creative. And as if that wasn’t enough, Parrot can also track your MIDI notes, letting you “play” the bands. Did I mention that I also really dig the UI? Personally, I think I would’ve voted this unusual free plugin in first place!

Parrot is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST3, AU, CLAP, and LV2 formats.
