DAWJunkie LeadOff Jr: Free Wavetable Lead Synth
LeadOff Jr by DAWJunkie is a nice little wavetable synth that specializes in leads, but can also deliver some beautiful pads and chords. It offers two oscillators or ‘synths’ per voice. Oscillator 1 is a wavetable oscillator that lets you sweep through wavetables, adjust the position, and apply LFO modulation. Oscillator 2 delivers standard waveforms with the ability to continuously morph between them. By blending and detuning the two oscillators, you have a wide variety of sounds at your fingertips.
In addition, LeadOff Jr offers three special transient-type sounds (Click, Ding, Supersaw Stab) that you can mix in for a more percussive attack. For sound shaping, there’s a resonant filter with an envelope, as well as a handful of effects, including compressor, distortion, pitch shifter, phaser, delay, and reverb.
LeadOff Jr is available for macOS and Windows in VST, AU, and AAX formats. For just $1, you can upgrade to the full version of LeadOff with a bunch of extra features and options.
ViatorDSP Ripper: Free Analog-Style Distortion
Ripper by ViatorDSP is a versatile analog-style distortion plugin with a bunch of tricks up its sleeve. You can choose between six different distortion models, including amp, tube, tape, and more. In addition to the all-important Drive knob, the distortion section also offers a Mix knob that lets you blend the distorted and dry signals. The Rip button applies a 15 dB input boost to drive the signal harder into the distortion stage.
On the right-hand side, you’ll find a couple of filters. There’s a Tone knob that controls a tilt filter for quick and easy frequency balancing. For more precise control, Ripper also offers a pair of adjustable high-pass and low-pass filters. The Analog knob switches these to Moog-style ladder filters for more drastic filtering effects and an analog feel.
Ripper is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST3 and AU formats.
Gianni Chiarello Nice Stomps!: Free Collection of Amps and Pedals
Nice Stomps! by Gianni Chiarello is a collection of essential guitar tools based on the Neural Amp Modeler (NAM) technology. At this time, the bundle includes six plugins:
- PreBrowser is a channel strip plugin that lets you load free preamp profiles from the massive and growing Tone3000 community library. It comes with a handy browser that makes it easy to find the perfect profile for your sound.
- Similarly, AmpBrowser lets you browse the NAM amp profile library. You can choose between Full Rig profiles or DI amp profiles for adding your own cabinet IRs.
- StompBrowser is the same thing for pedal profiles. The plugin puts a ton of free pedals from the Tone3000 library at your fingertips.
- Easy Amp is a NAM-powered guitar amp sim with a warm and classic sound.
- Delay Chorus is just what it says: the plugin combines a stereo delay with a tri-style chorus and tape saturation.
- Last, but not least, California Drive is a NAM-powered overdrive plugin with two modes: a transparent drive and an edgier, more aggressive sound.
According to the developer, more plugins will be added to the bundle in the future. Nice Stomps! runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST3 and AU formats.
