Lee Sklar’s original Precision Bass is instantly recognisable, much like his playing. Now, Fender has recreated it (minus the signatures), attempting to recreate the worn-in look and original EMG pickups.
Unique Specifications
The Fender Lee Sklar Precision Bass features a classic alder body paired with a bolt-on maple neck carved into a comfortable 1962 Jazz Bass “C” profile. The instrument maintains a standard 34-inch (864 mm) scale length and a 1.59-inch (40.4 mm) nut width.
The neck is topped with a round-laminated rosewood fingerboard boasting a vintage 7.25-inch (184.1 mm) radius. This fingerboard features a bone nut, 20 unique mandolin frets, and characteristic clay dot inlays with matching side markers.
BadAss
For hardware, the bass features a sturdy BadAss II bridge and open-gear, inverted Gotoh tuners. These tuners feature Hipshot BT3 Bass Xtenders, allowing you to quickly drop-tune the lowest string while playing. To tie it all together, all of the hardware is finished in an elegant Heirloom nickel and chrome.
Custom EMGs
The sound, refined over decades, comes from an EMG Active Lee Sklar P split-coil pickup connected to active electronics. The tone control is simple: two volume controls and one tone control. These pickups are the culmination of a lengthy process to represent the original pickups as closely as possible.
Aged Finish
The bass comes strung with GHS L5000 Light Super Steel Round Wound strings (.040, .058, .080, .102) from the factory.
The finish is called Aged Natural, which gives the instrument a warm, aged character. The construction clearly shows great attention to detail. The Fender Lee Sklar Precision Bass comes with a vintage-style tweed case and a gold plush interior.
