The new Crazy Tube Circuits Rapture takes the amp section of CTC’s revered Triptychon effect and makes it a standalone effect. So you get endless edge-of-breakup tube goodness, plus two enhancements that extend the pedal’s overdrive voicing.
This is Rapture:
What is the Crazy Tube Circuits Rapture?
Where the Triptychon brought you all the monstrous, octave-fuzzed, complex distortion you could ever wish for, the new Rapture takes Triptychon’s amp section as a standalone pedal. So, this one is much less about insane, brutal sonic mayhem, and much more about edge-of-breakup.
Imagine a tube amp’s sweet spot. Your sound is compressed. Each chord blossoms into endless harmonics. The more dynamically you play, the more depth your notes get. That sound. The Triptychon offered that as part of a larger pedal. But it became so popular and much discussed that CTC made the Rapture.
How is the Crazy Tube Circuits Rapture different from the Triptychon?
In terms of workflow, the Crazy Tube Circuits Rapture is a much simpler affair than the Triptychon. Three knobs, mono signal flow, two switches. It’s an overdrive so the knobs so what every drive’s knob’s do: gain, tone, and master (volume). But with that alone, you get many different clean and crunch sounds.

CTC have not only made the Triptychon’s amp section its own pedal, they’ve also added two switches that extend the sound. When the MORE and MOD switches are in the lower position, Rapture sounds like Triptychon’s amp section.
When you switch MOD on, the pedal stays in the clean zone much longer. It’s as if you added loads of headroom. Think Fender Reverb. When you engage MORE, you change the pedal’s gain structure. You’ll notice how turning the Drive knob now leads you into different, more overdriven territory much faster.

The results of engaging either switch or both depend on your playing style and the pedal’s position in the signal chain, of course. Use it to boost your signal, put it at the end of the chain, right before other drivers. Each time, with each setting, the Crazy Tube Circuits Rapture will get you very different, clean to overdriven results.
How much does the Crazy Tube Circuits Rapture cost?
The Crazy Tube Circuits Rapture is available now from Thomann* for 189 euros.
