Catalinbread has just released the Cold One, and it is their reimagined take on the 90s DOD Punkifier pedal. A pedal originally used by Blur’s Graham Coxon on many of their hits.

Cold One
Catlinbread has taken the DOD Punkifier circuit and rebuilt it for guitarists in 2026. The pedal keeps many of the oddball names for the controls, including Slam, Punk, Menace, etc and adds some improvements to the original 1995 pedal design.

Distortion, Fuzz, & Glitch
The original pedal straddled distortion and fuzz, with some interesting results. The Cold One keeps the basic control layout and keeps the following controls, with an addition to the original.
Slam is the distortion and adjusts the amount of gain, so it can do amp-style drive and more. Then Punk controls the distortion/fuzz balance, whilst Spikes controls the tone, and Menace governs the volume.
Updates
Catalinbread added Glitch, which blends the fuzz circuit with a more glitchy ‘arpeggiating fuzz tone’ according to their site. The pedal also includes buffered inputs and outputs, so it will play nicely anywhere in the signal chain. Plus, it can be run at 18V for more internal headroom, so it has a few nice updates in the circuit to differentiate it enough from the original DOD pedal.
Who is it for?
This three-in-one distortion/fuzz/glitch can be used for adding a new set of drive textures to your music. It could appeal to anyone who wants something a little diffeent from the usual Klon and Bluesbreaker drives, or Muff clones, etc.
I can see it being fun for a while, or useful for standout riffs or solos, etc. The original ’90s DOD pedal was only built for two years, and so they now demand higher prices on the used market.
These could be useful if you play in a Blur cover band, perhaps?
Availability
The Catalinbread Cold One is available at Thomann and Sweetwater.
