Blackstar Fly 3 High Gain: Massive Metal Tones, for Mobile Madness

The Fly series from Blackstar is aimed at beginners who love to jam on the go. With the Fly 3 High Gain, we now get a version aimed at metalheads. So now reason to hide in the basement anymore!

Blackstar Fly 3 High Gain

Blackstar’s Fly 3 Mini has been one of the top-selling combo amps for on-the-go use for years. It’s the perfect companion for jamming in your hotel room or the living room. The little amp delivers sounds ranging from clean to overdrive. For fans of heavy high-gain sounds, however, the little mini-combo amp was a bit too tame. That’s why the manufacturer has stepped it up and is now introducing the Blackstar Fly 3 High Gain.

To give it a more rugged, meaner look, Blackstar has gone for a different front grille for the Fly 3 High Gain. The controls are pretty much the same as its predecessor.

You’ll find controls for Gain, Volume, EQ, and Delay. But in addition to the Overdrive button, you’ll notice a new Nitro button. This mode gets you into the realm of heavy metal and high gain sounds and delivers endless, thunderous distortion. Plus, a built-in Noise Gate ensures that the guitar’s pickup noise doesn’t get too annoying.

Three Channels, Three Ways to Metal

Blackstar says that the Fly 3 High Gain’s Nitro tones will get you into metal, hard rock, and punk territory.

Overall, you get three channels: Clean, Overdrive, and Nitro, complete with an ISF control (to select either British or American amp tones) and a delay effect. The little 3-watt amp also includes a 3-inch speaker, which is more than enough to practice at home, tickle your eardrums, and maybe even wake the next-door neighbor.

Furthermore, the Fly 3 High Gain also features an MP3/line input and an emulated output for headphones or external speakers. And if you’re sick of playing inside, just get six AA batteries and play anywhere you want!

How much does the Blackstar Fly 3 High Gain cost?

You can get the Blackstar Fly 3 High Gain for 99 euros from Thomann*. There is also the standard version, which goes for 75 euros*.
