A prototype Behringer ANIMA DJ Controller has just been teased on the manufacturer’s Facebook page, and it will cost under $400 when it arrives.
According to Behringer, “THE DJ INDUSTRY IS ABOUT TO CHANGE FOREVER.” Now, as gear fanatics, we understand hyperbole perfectly, but we are nevertheless drawn to the allure of an affordable Behringer DJ console.
Behringer ANIMA DJ Controller
It was only a matter of time before MusicTribe turned toward the DJ market, and, as it has done with the Behringer Kick MPC-style music production groovebox, the company has taken an “open hardware” approach. What this means is that you’ll be able to create your own software or firmware to run alongside your favorite DJ platforms like Serato and Traktor.
Behringer’s Facebook post also showed pictures of the initial prototypes, which are “currently being assembled”. On the unit shown, we can make out the name “ANIMA” on both the front and rear panels, and while the control layout seems pretty standard, there are some interesting assumptions we can make by looking at the rear connectivity panel or even speculate as to the implications of the Klark Teknik logo on the back.
The pictured prototype looks like a standalone DJ performance console with multiple audio outputs, audio interface connectivity, MIDI, and potentially even onboard storage for your music library. Whether this will be the only one of its kind or part of a series is unclear right now, but Behringer’s “We build the hardware. You create the magic.” sentiments suggest a rallying cry of sorts for community collaboration once the unit is launched.
How this turns out will be entirely dependent on user participation, but if the excitement around the Behringer Kick is anything to go by, there should be musicians and DJs itching to get their dextrous hands on this piece of tech. While we don’t know what the standard firmware of this DJ console will allow, there is infinite potential to integrate it with any streaming platform or software available.
Pricing and Availability:
The exact pricing of the Behringer ANIMA DJ Controller was not specified, but Behringer did say “US$300-400”. As to when it will hit the shelves, we can only hope it’s sometime next year.
